Mao Asada

Mao Asada (浅田 真央) was born on September 25, 1990 in Nagoya, Japan. She is the 2008 World Champion, Four Continents Champion, two-time Grand Prix Final Champion (2005, 2008), and the four time Japanese National Champion. Her trademark move is the triple axel. She is the first and only woman to land two of these in the same program at an ISU competition. Mao is also known for her balletic and soft movements across the ice and her gorgeous Bielleman positioned spirals and spins.
Mao's parents named her after the famous Japanese actress Mao Daichi. Mao Asada recently graduated from Chukyo High School and is now a freshman at Chukyo University. Her older sister, Mai, is also an elite figure skater. Mai's best international finish was 6th at the Four Continents.
Mao's costumes and music selections are always beautiful. Her skating is amazing!! Mao, good luck training in the summer and going for gold in Vancouver 2010!
